BOYD CLOSE
UPMINSTER, ESSEX
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
When this design was commissioned, the garden belonging to a newly constructed property consisted merely of a standard square lawn enclosed by fencing.
The couple presented us with the task of maximising the potential of this small space by incorporating various elements, such as an outdoor dining area, a seating section, a well-maintained lawn, and carefully selected plantings. Additionally, we faced the challenge of enhancing privacy levels, as the neighbouring properties in close proximity overlooked the garden.
To address the privacy concerns, we strategically installed a row of pleached Photina trees along the boundary. Given the challenging ground conditions characterised by a high water table, the trees were raised in large wooden troughs. Furthermore, the rear fencing was concealed behind an attractive cedar screen, elegantly framed by evergreen hedging.
The screen not only disguises the plain fencing but also serves as a backdrop for an elegant piece of sculpture that acts as the focal point of the garden.
