ASHBURNHAM GARDENS - PHASE ONE
UPMINSTER, ESSEX
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Our clients contacted us having recently moved into the property and found that the garden wasn't suitable for their needs. Their brief called for modernisation and in some areas, the requirement to make it safe.
A notable characteristic of the property is its elevated position, with the house situated approximately 1.5 meters higher than the main body of the garden, which then gradually slopes downward. Addressing the abrupt transition from the house to the garden was crucial to ensure the well-being of those utilising the space.
To tackle this challenge, a terracing system was implemented starting with a pathway running along the back of the house, leading down to a paved area containing a simple bench. From there, it extends to a secondary terrace which houses an outdoor dining set. Finally, it culminates in a luxurious seating area bordered by raised beds containing an assortment of mixed herbaceous plants.
Beyond this point, the garden descends further to a stepped lawn section, flanked by herbaceous beds. The remainder of the garden beyond is earmarked for future development.
The planting scheme is generous, combining structural shrubs, multi-stemmed trees, perennials, bulbs, and climbers. The scheme ensures year-round visual interest, captivating observers with its ever-changing beauty.
